A couple I know are expecting their first baby in early 2013. This couple could be considered urban hipsters so I wanted to make them a modern quilt and I pondered on a design for a couple of weeks. While commuting to work, I decided to do a variation of my recently completed pow-wow baby quilt.
I wanted to use triangles while using up scraps. So to create a minimalist look, I decided that I would have a lot of negative space and use colours in the quilt similar to a colour wheel. The background is Daisy Janie’s organic shades of grey – dapple dot. This is what I ended up with:
I initially didn’t like the quilt top with all its negative space. But, I decided to add a border (and use up more scraps), I’m quite happy with it. I’m still thinking how to quilt it (cross-hatch, meander?). Any thoughts?

I really think you did a good job with this one. I would just follow the general direction of the sides of the diamonds and quilt in diagonal lines, keeping the focus on the diamonds.
That’s a great idea. I think a light grey thread would be best.
